Anton Viktorovich Yelchin (March 11, 1989 â June 19, 2016) was an American film and television actor, known for portrayingÂ Pavel ChekovÂ in theÂ Star TrekÂ reboot series, and for several other prominent roles.
Born to aÂ RussianÂ JewishÂ family inÂ Leningrad, Yelchin relocated to the United States as an infant.Â He began performing in the late 1990s, appearing in several television roles and the Hollywood filmsÂ Along Came a SpiderÂ andÂ Hearts in AtlantisÂ (both 2001). His role as Jacob Clarke in theÂ Steven SpielbergÂ miniseriesÂ TakenÂ was significant in furthering his career as a child actor.Â He later appeared on the television seriesÂ HuffÂ and appeared in the filmsÂ Terminator SalvationÂ (2009),Â Charlie BartlettÂ (2007),Â Fright NightÂ (2011),Â Like CrazyÂ (2011),Â The SmurfsÂ (2011) andÂ Only Lovers Left AliveÂ (2013). He appears inÂ Star TrekÂ (2009) andÂ Star Trek Into DarknessÂ (2013), and will appear posthumously inÂ Star Trek BeyondÂ (2016).
